E-News for Friday, December 4, 2020

Dear Friends,

This Sunday is the Second Sunday of Advent. Louise Baker shares her thoughts on the announcement that Mary was to conceive and bear the Christ Child. Her lovely devotion reminds us of the great gift of love which the birth of Jesus brings. Louise’s devotion is on our website on the Worship at Home for Sunday, December 6, 2020.

This Sunday our scripture lessons is not the lectionary text. Instead we are exploring the theme I Believe in Love: Daring Right Relationship. We have heard the story of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus so many times that the daring nature of this loving relationship may seem ordinary. There is nothing ordinary about this love! Mary and Joseph believed in the love of God so much that they dared to be the earthly family to God’s son.

I invite you to set out Advent Candles at home to light on Sunday morning. The candles do not have to be the purple and pink candles that we use at church

We will be worshipping in person and livestreaming via Facebook 9am on Sunday mornings. You need not have a Facebook account to watch and listen. You are in my thoughts and prayers. If you need anything, please call my cell phone 573-832-2475.

Announcements:

  • Thank you to the Turkey Supper helpers, church decorators and everyone who does so much for our church.
  • We are still accepting your votes for the 2021 Budget.
  • The Cookie Sale will be on Saturday, December 12. Boxes will be prepackaged and sold from the church foyer. Please bring your cookies to church by Thursday, December 10.
  • The Youth will meet on Sunday, December 14 at 4:30 to shop for our adopted family and to rehearse the Christmas Pageant.
  • I’m looking for writers to create a short (100-200-word) reflection for the third and fourth Sundays in Advent. These reflections will be included in the mailing for the week.
  • There is a Christmas tree with blue lights outside on the Peter’s street side of the church. Members of the community are invited to hang ornaments to remember loved ones who have passed, symbols of this difficult year and signs of hope on this tree.

Prayers and Blessings,

Pastor Stephanie DeLong
