Suspending Worship and Activities for the Next Two Weeks

St. Peter’s United Church of Christ

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Dear Members and Friends of St. Peter’s UCC,

Greetings in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ who gives us hope and life. At this time in our nation and the world, we have been asked to restrict social interaction with one another so that we will not spread the Covid-19 (Corona) Virus to one another. As caring and faithful people, we wish to follow these guidelines. So, at this time we will need to suspend worship services and all gatherings (Choir, Bible Study, Youth Group) activities at St. Peter’s UCC for the next two weeks (through Friday, April 3) per guidance on limiting group interactions.

After two weeks, we will prayerfully reexamine the issue and decide when it will be wise to resume worship and other activities. This may mean that we will need to reschedule Confirmation Sunday from Sunday, April 5 to a future Sunday. Holy Week Worship Services will need to be handled differently as well. Please pray and be patient during this time of uncertainty.

We encourage you to pray and worship at home. If you would like to listen to a worship service on a CD player, we have CD’s available from past worship services for you to use. Please let the church office know if you would like one, and someone will bring a CD to your home. Plans are being made to create a podcast with music, prayers and mediations on the scripture. A link to this podcast would be placed on our church website,

On the Church Website we will be placing links to:

  • A statement written by our Church Council President Jean Baker. Jean shared this statement with the congregation on Sunday, March 15 during worship.
  • Bulletins for Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29
  • Prayers and Meditations for Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29

Please note that this letter and the items listed above will be sent via “snail” mail to our members who do not have email addresses.

We understand that this is a difficult time for all of us. It is the call of the church to be a faithful, caring and non-anxious presence in times of trouble. Please continue to give financially to the ministry of St. Peter’s by mailing or dropping off your offerings in the church office. We continue to pray for all the places and people who have been affected by the Covid-19 virus and all other illnesses. Let us keep faith, hope and love alive, always.

In Jesus Name,

Pastor Stephanie DeLong
