Weekly E-News for Friday, August 16, 2019

Dear Friends,

Jesus wants us to be on fire for the Gospel, Luke 12:49, “I have come to bring fire on earth…” Being on fire and passionate with God’s word can be a scary thing. Personally, I prefer to snuggle up with a devotional guide and my Bible on the sofa in my home. Jesus wants us to pray and study the scriptures, but Jesus also wants us to be on fire and to do amazing things in his name out in the world.

For many of us this seems to be an impossible task. The preacher in Hebrews 11:29-12:2 reminds us of people who were so on fire with faith that with God’s help they did amazing things: crossed seas, shut the mouths of lions and watched the walls of a fortress fall. So, when we are faced with impossible tasks how can we be people of faith on fire with the Spirit?

We are an amazing people who can do amazing things, if we can be on fire together. This summer we have been worshipping together as one. After Labor Day we will return to two services, but we will need to be a faithful people on fire for the Gospel together. Let us think of how we can be one congregation acting for Jesus in this world.
