Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that summer vacation for students in the Owensville Schools is almost over. Open Houses have been taking place this week. New teachers have been greeted. New schedules have been reviewed. Sports practices officially begin on Monday. School begins on Wednesday for those who are prepared and for those who are not.
Being alert and prepared is one of the themes for our Gospel lesson this Sunday, August 11. In Luke 12:35-36, Jesus reminds us to be dressed for action as we live our lives of faith. Jesus uses the analogy of servants waiting for their master to return from his honeymoon. They need to have the house ready and waiting for his return with his bride. We might do better with a sports analogy. Think instead about that player who works out hard, learns every play, keeps his/her gear in good shape, but is not on the 1st string. This player sits on the bench anticipating that moment when coach says, “You’re in the game.” Being prepared this bench warmer leaps into the game and scores the winning run, touch down or basket much to the jubilation of the coach and the team. We should be like that player in our faith journey saying to God, “Put me in coach! I am ready to play today!”
